Baidu beats MSN search

Chinese search Engine Baidu has surged ahead in recent months and has surpassed Microsoft to become the third most used search engine in August after web majors Google and Yahoo.

A comScore study said that 3.2 billion searches were carried out on Baidu while there were only 2.1 billion searchers in MSN. Another Asian search engine, NHN of Korea, came fifth after MSN, above AOL and Ask.com.

Mr.Bob Ivins of ConScore said that this shows that search has become a trudly global phenomenon. Baidu, which imitates Google’s simple interface, searches websites, audio files, and images. The name Baidu is taken from an old Chinese poem.

Its most popular feature is its MP3 Search which attracts millions of Chinese youth looking for pop music.
