3 AIADMK men get death

February 16, Three AIADMK activists were sentensed to death and 25 others to seven years imprisionment by a sessions court in Salem in the Dharmapuri bus burning case for killing three students of the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University in Coimbatore during a protest against AIADMK leader Ms J. Jayalalithaa being convicted in a corruption case in 2000.

Three students of the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University in Coimbatore, Kokilavani, Hemalatha and Gayatri, were charred to death when the vehicle was fired by the accused.

Initially, the case was heard by a court in Krishnagiri, then the case was transferred to Salem by the Madras High court during the previous AIADMK regime. The first additional sessions judge D.Krishna Raja fined 24 convicts Rs. 13,000 each and ordered one to pay Rs. 15,000 in the sensational Dharmapuri bus burning case.

The first additional sessions judge D.Krishna Raja ordered that the three accused Nedunchezhiyan, Ravichandran, C.Muniappan be hanged to death in the Dharmapuri bus burning case. D.Krishna Raja said that the murder of the three girls by torching their vehicle was the rarest of the rare case. He said that the extreme punishment was justified, besides it should serve as a warning others.

The three students of the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University at Coimbatore were charred to death and 18 others suffered burns in the bus burning incident. All the three accused were asked to pay Rs.59000 each in Dharmapuri vehicle torching case. Tight security arrangements were made in the court complex in view of the judgement.

DIG of crime branch, CID police, D.Rajendran said that the judgement in Dharmapuri bus burning case was a reward to the good work done by his team.
