Support to Mulayam from Congress
January 17, The congress finally announced that it was withdrawing support to Mulayam singh Yadav government in Uttar Pradesh. The withdrawal support by the Congress was announced by PCC chief Salman Khusheed at a press conference. This has 15 members in the 403 strong State Assembly. The SP has 152 members while its alliance partner the Loktantrik Bahijan Dal has 33. The main opposition BJP has 83 and the BSP 67 MLAs.
Mr.Salman Khusheed said that the party leadership would meet Governer T.V.Rajeswar on the next day to intimate its decision to withdraw support to the yadav government. The SP enjoys support of 16 independents and two Loktantrik Congress party members. The congress action came when fresh polls in the state are round the corner.
Khursheed said that the Congress had extended outside support to the SP-led government. He also said that it appeared that the State Government had joined hands with the communal forces leaving them with no choice but to withdraw their support.
He alleged that the law and order situation had turned for the worse and there was no rule of law worth the name in the state. Pramod Tiwari, CLP leader, said that the main reason which provoked them to take action was delay in handling over the Nithari case was designed to benefit the accused.
Khursheed said, that came as a shock that the government was even willing to collaborate with communal forces in order to undermine the Congress. He also said that in several places communal riots erupted clearly due to the connivance of ruling parties and was agents. At the same time the Samajwadi Party said it was very much on the cards. SP general secretary and Minister for Transport Naresh Agarwal said that they knew that the Congress could withdraw support.
