Satyam’s IDMF to target publishers
Satyam Computer Services Ltd will target traditional publishers first and later music and film producers and distributors for its integrated Digital Media Framework (IDMF), a solution accelerator for content producers to increase monetizable opportunities.
Senior Vice President Kevin English said that there was great demand from traditional publishers to move content to the web. Rich media including video would come later. IDMF would increase the return on content for customers.
Print, television, radio, internet and the wireless medium are expected to benefit from IDMF. Satyam Computer Services is targeting large publishers with high volumes of content inflow, publishers using different technologies and products, and publishers going for mergers and acquisitions with need for integration of various technologies used by different acquired organisations.
English said that the IDMF wasn’t a product, it was a combination of several intellectual properties (IP) of Satyam that were in the process of getting patented, and hense a framework where several technologies from partner companies had been used underlying the IPs that Satyam Computer Services had developed. He said that they were looking at increasing their revenues in the media and entertainment and covergence businesses.
According to Vice President Abhijit Dasgupta, IDMF would enable convergence of devices, data, media, control layer and the proliferation of the internet and devices across both business and lifestyle.
Globally, the content management business is estimated at over $30 billion annually. English said that the media and entertainment industry globally was worth $1.7 trillion in 2007 and was expected to grow $2 trillion in 2011. He said the US and Europe together accounted for 65 percent of the total revenue in this sector with a slow growth of 5 percent annually, whereas Asia and Latin America were fast growing markets at 10 percent per annum.
