Judges should not exceed their limits: DMK

February 4, The DMK led M.Karunanidhi warned the Madras High Court judges. He told that the judges had to function within the limits and understand that they are not superior to government which was elected by the people.

The DMK treasurer Arcot N.Veerasamy said that the superior tribunal judges were behaving as if they jumped from the sky. He said that everyone had limit and they should stop there. He also said that the judges had no legal authority to criticise a democratically-elected Cheif Minister or to consult the government after criticising it.

No one blamed the State Election Commissioner or the State Government after the local body elections. A few charges were raised and repoll ordered in 27 booths, after the AIADMK petitioned. High Court gave a spilt veredict in Chennai Corporation.

He asked why should the court consult the government after stating that he has no powers. He took exception to the Madras High Court rapping the Government on the constitution of an inquiry commission to inquire into the death of a girl student at Omalur in Salem district.

Veerasamy said that a judge had raised the question on how a commission could be appointed without consulting the High Court. He asked who gave the powers to the High Court to take the powers of the Chief Minister.

He also said that the Chief Minister should handle his power effectively and the superior tribunal should give verdicts as per the laws. If the judges wanted to rule the state, it was not right, he added.
