MDMK rebels hail Chief Minister Tuesday, January 9th, 2007

January 7, The dissident leaders of Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) leaders L. Ganesan and Gingee N. Ramachandran have hailed chief minister M. Karunanidhi’s decision to accept their group as an ally of the DMK-led DPA in the state.

Mr.Karunanidhi was thanked by Mr.ganesan and Mr.Ramachandran for recognising their faction and accepting it as an ally of democratic progressive alliance. They said that their group would act as per the guidence of cheif minister Karunanidhi. They hailed Mr.Karunanidhi as a matured political leader with vast political experience and a statesman known for his administering ability.

In a statement Mr.Ramachandran had alleged that Mr vaiko had hatched a plot to hurl bombs at the DMK party office Thayagam and put the blame on them. As per the information he had received, the attack on Thayagam would be carried out by his hirelings from Tirunelveli district and the blame would be put on them. He also said that Mr.Vaiko intended to seek sympathy from the people by doing like that.

Mr. Ramachandran alleged that Mr Vaiko was attempting to pull the MDMK members to his side. At the same time Mr Vaiko has alleged that the police was acting at the behest of the ruling DMK foisted cases on MDMK Membakottai union secretary N.P. Munisamy in order to prevent him, from attending the january 10 general council meeting in Chennai.

He said that the police was acting like a stooge to the governmen, instead of being neutral. He also said that the police was indulging in unjust deeds of foisting cases on the MDMK and AIADMK functionaries.

January 5, An Information Technology based call centre service for effective policing was suggested by President A.P.J. Abbdul Kalam for the Chennai city police. Kalam said attracting service conditions with suitable pay packages and promoting organisational culture would enhance the efficiency of the police force.

Addressing the function of the 150th year celebrations of the Chennai Metropolitan Police (CMP), several points were suggested by Mr.Kalam to improve the efficiency of police and methods for decongestion of traffic flow. He also said that there was a need to use the technology for making the police system more efficient.

The president pointed out that the police station is a place of actions, that every complaint should be registered and if possible all activities in the station should be computerised. He satated that the aim of the training should be to provide a cultural change among the total force. H also focussed on the importance of good pay package for efficient and corruption-free functioning of the police.

Mr.Kalam said foreign traning could be given to constables. According to him the police should be friendly, corruption-free, responsible, tolerence, caring, besides being mentally and physically fit. He also said that improved technology would make police equipped to handle crime in a digital world.

Tamil Nadu governer Surjit Singh Barnala said that policing should shift from regime policing to democractic policing and it should be based on the principles of equity, accountability, transparency and the protection of individualo right.

Mr.L.K.Tripathy, Cheif Secratary, said that the police should rightly generate fear in the minds of lawbreakers and should act as freinds of law abiding citizens. City police commissioner Letika Saran delivered vote of thanks. State minister for school education Thangam Thennarasau and home secretary S.Malathy, DGP D.Mukerjee were also present.

December 30, The scheme “Varummun Kappom” a preventive health-programme was relaunched by Tamil Nadu cheif minister M.Karunanidhi at Arignar Anna Government School, Poonamallee. During the previous DMK regime, the government implemented the scheme in all districts across the state.

Speaking after the inauguration of the scheme Mr. Karunanidhi remarked the support of the people to the several welfare schemes of the government. The scheme was launched to create awareness the people on ways to prevent diseases. The AIADMK regime abandoned many wefare schemes which were introduced by DMK government.

Mr.Karunanidhi said that the farmers markets, the Samathuvapuram concept, the Namakku naamey scheme and the Varnmmun Kappon schemes ware scrapped by the AIADMK government. The Moovalur Ramamritham Ammaiyar Memorial Marriage Assistance scheme was also discontinued by the AIADMK government.

The chief minister urged the memnbers to support the efforts of the government in sustaining its welfare measures. He also said the people should be health-concious and keep their environment clean.

V.K.Subburaj, Secretary of health and family welfare department said major ailments could be avoided if people took adequate precautionary measures. State public works department minister K.K.S.S.R.Ramachandran, Congress legislature party leader D.Sudarasanam, Tiruvallur legislator E.A.P.Sivaji and the Sriperumpudur MP A.Krishnasami also attended the inauguration function.
