Wipro, Lockheed Martin start operations in Gurgaon

Wipro Technologies and defence contractor Lockheed Martin announced the opening of their joint network centric operations centre in Gurgaon. It is the third such centre for Lockheed Martin after those in USA and the UK.

The centre, christened Ambar Jyoti, will develop, demonstrate and experiment with emerging network-enabled capabilities and solutions to cater to military and civil applications. With its core competence in testing and analysing war-fighting concepts, it would help the armed forces in the areas of command, control, communications, surveillance and reconnaissance.

While it could help with traffic management in civil aviation, Ambar Jyoti would also come handy for optimal resource deployment in case of natural disasters. Wipro Technologies chief operating officer A.L.Rao said that Lockheed Martin would provide simulation tools and its aerospace expertise, while Wipro Technologies brings its IT infrastructure and networking expertise to the colloboration.

Dr.Rao did not discolse the investment in setting up the centre that will have a 50 member team working on experimentation and demonstration by the end of the year. Lockheed Martin will network Ambar Jyoti with similar centres accross the globe to enable more complex, real-time demonstrations at the Indian facility.
