Laptops at Rs.15000 to be available soon
Allied Computers International (Asia) ACi plans to launch laptops which would be available for Rs.15000 in the first quarter of next year. Hirji Patel, MD, ACi said that they presently sell laptops priced below Rs.20000 and the response has been encouraging. He said that they had planned to launch out laptop priced around Rs.15000.
However, with expectations that at this price laptop’s penetration would exceed that of personal computers, Allied Computers International (ACi) plans an investment of Rs.10-12 crore in order to enhance its production of laptops. Besides, the company is also optimistic about scaling up its production to around one lakh units by 2008 end with the introduction of the new laptop.
Patel added that the production figure seemed astronomical but remember the price of their laptop would drop dramatically to below USD 350 or Rs.15000. He also said that they would be building up their infrastructure to support that production.
He noted that the new laptop would weigh less than a kilo and be much smaller in size than the conventional laptop in use.
