RIL (Reliance Industries Limited) will set up a 50000 barrels per day refinery in Yemen. The Construction of the refinery will be started from January 23 and it will take 36 months to complete. Reliance will partner the Yemen company Hood Oil for the refinery. RIL already has a stake in two oil blocks in Yemen. RIL also has exploration blocks in Oman, east Timor and Columbia.

Yemen oil mininster Khalid Mahfoudh Dahah told reporters that the refinary capacity would be 0000 barrels per day in the initial phase and could be doubled later. He told this in Petrotech 2007 Conference on January 16.

Mr.Dahah said that Yemen would be offering 5-10 offshore blocks in the second half of this year for bidding. It is understood that RIL may bid for these too. He also said that the RIL would have an obligation to sell products from the refinary in the domestic market for the first five months.

The product mix will include petrol, diesel, aviation fuel, kerosene, cooking gas and benzene. Mr.Dahah said that they were even free to enter the retail sector in Yemen. Currently, 7500 barrels are produced per day and the output would go up to 10000 barrels this month.

Petrotech was described as a forum for invaluable exchange of ideas, knowledge and technology by ONCG chairman nd MD R.S.Sharma.

Honda - New Unit in Rajasthan

Honda - New Unit in Rajasthan Tuesday, January 16th, 2007

January 14, Honda Siel Cars India (HSCI) is being to set up its second car plant in Rajasthan at an estimated cost of Rs.900 crores. Honda’s small car in the Indian market will be manufactured by this second plant and will have an initial capacity of 50,000 units per annum. It has signed a letter of intent with the government of Rajasthan to this effect.

Honda is the leading manufacturer of premium cars in India. It operates through a joint venture Honda Seil Cars India (HSCI). The company informed that it had been in discussion with severl states for the company’s new plant, but eventually selected Rajasthan because of its proximity to Honda’s biggest market as well as logistics advantages and managerial convenience.

Honda Seil Car India president and chief executive officer (CEO) Masahiro Takedagawa said that they would contribute to the industrial development of the state to enhance employment apportunities through several avenues.

He also said that they would bring the same corporate culture to the state of Rajasthan, as Honda had always been a good corporate citizen globally and has contributed tyo the societies it had operated its. Honda is seeking an area of 500 to 700 acres for the plant. The plant is expected to see an investment of $200 million from the company and will be used for manufacturing small cars.

The company informed that the new plant would also have a Supplliers’ Park, which would house Honda’s network of ancillary units. The project is claimed to be the first of its kind industrialisation of the state with both upstream and down stream investments as well as large-scale employment generation. Mr Takedagawa said that Honda was committed to the preservation of ecology of the srroundings it operates in and aims to be the company that society would want to have across the globe.

Free Gas Stove Distribution

January 14, As a part of fulfilling poll promises, the distribution of free cooking gas connections and gas for the Below Poverty Line (BPL) families were launched by the DMK government. Union Petrolium minister Murali Deora attended the function.

Mr.Deora said that over three lakh free gas connections would be provided in Tamil Nadu for the scheme. He also said that the natural gas supply project would be launched soon in Tamil Nadu to benefit over two crore households, which would ensure that there was no shortage of LPG supply.

Mr.Deora asked the Tamil Nadu government to take strict attention to rules and procedures to reduce pollution levels in the state and to consider installing CNG in all modes of public transport. He stated that more gas botling plants would be set up to meet the demand for LPG in Tamil Nadu.

Mr.Karunanidhi appealed to the centre to release more funds for various schemes. The DMK government has gave up farmers loans to the tune of Rs.7000 crore and distributed colour TV sets to the poor and rice is also sold for Rs.2 per kg in public distribution system.

Mr Karunanidhi thanked Union petroleum minister Murali Deora, for attending the function and for his assurance to the state government that the Centre would extend all help for the welfare schemes of the state. He also gratefully acknowledged that Sethusamudram Project had become a reality only because of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

The chief minister also requested the women to use the gas stoves carefully, especially in houses with thatched roof. He said that a small spark could destroy their house and he his heart would bleed if an accident happened. The function was attended by the Union minister for information technology and communication Dayanidhi Maran.
